Polanski and Snider Top "Big I" Field
Steve Polanski and Stacy Snider will lead a strong Michigan contingent to the national finals of the Independent Insurance Agents Junior Classic (IIAJC) August 7-13 in Pueblo, Colorado. Polanski, representing the Traverse City region, was the top male qualifier in the 29th Annual "Big I" state tournament, while Snider, representing Grand Rapids, led female qualifiers.
In total, this year's tournament drew more than 1,130 golfers from 22 local qualifying sites around the state, making Michigan the largest of the 47 states which participate in the IIAJC. The state finals, held July 14 at Cadillac Country Club in Cadillac, MI, was comprised of the top 69 junior males and top 21 junior females.
In the boy's division, six slots for the national tournament were up for grabs, with a 36-hole format. Polanski carded rounds of 70/66 for a 136 total, including a blistering 32 on the final nine holes, to win first place by four shots. Other qualifiers (and the regions they represented were: Frank Syron (Oakland) 140, Brent Baribau (Grand Rapids) 141, Eric Jorgenson (Cadillac) 142, Dennis Riedel (St. Clair) 143, and Ryan Osborn (Lansing) 143.
The battle in the girl's division was for two invitations to the national tourney. Playing an 18-hole format, Snider shot a steady 73, in a round that included just one birdie. Grabbing the other berth was Amber Kennon (Lansing) who recorded a 74.
The eight Michigan qualifiers earned a week in Colorado at Southern Colorado University, and will play in the national tournament at Walking Stick Golf Course and the Pueblo Country Club.
