Michigan has led the nation in the number of new golf course openings in the last decade. However, this story is about one of those that did will be taken off the roles, Matheson Greens. The course designed by Gary Pulsipher and Steve White had just celebrated its 10th anniversary. According to Ina Davis, the course is closing because its newest owner, Dave Warm, did not have the same passion for the game that his father did. The course was put up for sale, but potential buyers all wanted the option to further develop the land. Dave was not particularly warm to the idea and made the decision to let the course revert back to its natural state.
October 15 was the last day of the course. Nevermore will you be able to take that magnificent drive out to this special golf respite. Nevermore will the crack or ping of a driver be heard, nor the sight of that drive heading out to the No. 1 fairway between those two signature mounds. Nevermore will you be able to power an iron onto the 18th green hopeful of a one putt and a sure birdie. Nevermore will you be able sit in the clubhouse tossing down a brew while the day's wins and losses are being figured on a scorecard. Nevermore. Farewell old friend, we will all miss you.
